The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered’s shadow drop initially surprised players. Still, the reception was mostly positive. Currently, the game is standing at a 7.8 Metacritic score, based on more than 600 player reviews. Despite newcomers and veterans enjoying exploring the lands of Cyrodiil, some annoying bugs have been bothering them from the beginning.
Within two weeks of its initial release, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered became one of the best-selling games of 2025. It looks like Bethesda wants to stretch this success further. Recently, on June 12, 2025, Oblivion Remastered received its first major update to address multiple bothersome issues.
The most striking change that this update, 1.1, has brought to the game is revised visual fidelity. Using Unreal Engine 5’s advanced rendering capabilities, the development team has created richer textures, lighting, and detailed character models for this game. As per the patch note, the update will further improve textures using AI upscaling techniques. So, players can expect to have crisper visuals without compromising the game’s nostalgic charm.
Further, this patch note revealed that lighting also gets an overhaul in this update. Using the dynamic global illumination, the developers have created more natural shadows and realistic light behavior in indoor and outdoor environments.
Moreover, NPC appearances are also refined. The patch note expressed that NPC appearances will become more lifelike and expressive. The update brings smoother skin tones, enhanced facial details, and refined animations to create polished models.
