Oblivion Remastered has multiple factions but the Dark Brotherhood is one of the most interesting for intriguing and complex tasks.
The process of joining the Dark Brotherhood goes through several obstacles that include murdering NPCs.
Once players join this faction, they will unlock a series of side quests to complete.
Side quests are some of the most interesting activities that a game can offer. These quests aren’t compulsory to complete, but they offer the most unforgettable experiences. The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered is no exception. This game has multiple side quests that one can easily go through to enjoy the depth of the storyline.
If you have been navigating through the vast world of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the Dark Brotherhood questline shouldn’t be missed. However, to complete them, players need to join the Dark Brotherhood, a dark and intriguing faction. It requires players to commit a murder and navigate through further steps.
Here’s a step-by-step guide providing a comprehensive walkthrough on how to become a member of the Dark Brotherhood.
To initiate this process, players have to become a ruthless assassin and murder an innocent civilian. Now, the point is the NPCs that players meet during the playthrough are mostly part of some quests. So, they have to choose one that doesn’t impact any mission, especially main story missions. Otherwise, the entire progress path will be messed up.
If the process seems a bit troublesome, here are some recommendations that players can easily consider to initiate the Dark Brotherhood quest:
The first group of NPCs are the beggars that players can kill for this quest. Beggars are common but unnoticed NPCs who don’t have any role in any quest.
The second group includes the City Guards. These NPCs are generally high-ranked, so for a low-rank player, it will be hard to eliminate these guards. However, killing one of the city guards will attract the attention of the Dark Brotherhood.
The best option to trigger this questline is killing the Adoring Fan. He is a passive NPC who doesn’t fight back when attacked. So, he is the perfect choice for this quest.
[Note: Killing bandits or hostile NPCs won’t count for this quest. So, players need to kill an NPC who’s not hostile or rather friendly to complete the first step.
Once this step is cleared, players will get a message saying someone observed them killing this innocent NPC. After that, when players sleep the next time, they will be greeted by Lucien Lachance, who will inform them that the Dark Brotherhood would like to welcome players if they kill Rufio.
From this point begins a new quest named A Knife in the Dark. This quest tasks players with assassinating Rufio, a man hiding at the Inn of Ill Omen. This inn is located south of Cyrodiil. This assassination won’t take much time, as this person is an old man whom players can easily take down using stealth.
Upon completing this mission, players will be invited to navigate through an abandoned house in Cheydinhal, where a secret entrance leads to the Brotherhood's Sanctuary. So, the next task requires them to locate this secret entrance.

To reach the Brotherhood's Sanctuary, players need to make their way to Cheydinhal, and the abandoned house will be found by the eastern wall. Unlock the door and head toward the basement. Now, follow the trail, and it will lead players to a door with a skull drawn on it.
As players approach it, it will ask, “What is the color of night?” Here, players need to say what Lucien Lachance has told them. So, the answer is, “Sanguine, my brother.” This will allow players to enter through the door and meet the head of the Dark Brotherhood faction, Ocheeva.
Now, players are officially members of the Dark Brotherhood faction. Interact with Ocheeva, and he will give a list of quests that players can complete to enjoy the story with more depth.
That’s everything players should know about joining the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered. This mysterious faction is full of ruthless assassins, so once players join this, they will soon start experiencing an engaging narrative filled with intrigue and moral complexity.
From initiating the quest through a murder to diving into the complex web of contracts and relationships within the sanctuary, this journey will offer players a different perspective that differs from the main storyline. Those who want to have an unforgettable experience of the world of Tamriel, Dark Brotherhood is highly recommended for them.
