Apple has touched a historic sales record in 2025 by surpassing the 3 billion mark. Since the iPhone was introduced in 2007, this company has sold more than 3 billion smartphones, with a surge of 13% year on year in iPhone sales this quarter alone. Two primary contributors to this growth are the iPhone 16 series and iOS 26 beta.

However, the record-breaking success comes with a looming threat. Apple authorities expect a sharp rise in pay for the new tariff policies under the Trump administration, making it hard for the company to bring products from outside the US.

Innovation and iOS 26 Fuel Growth of Apple

The iPhone 16 lineup has proven to be one of the major successes, specifically for its integration of AI-powered tools, advanced photography features, and extended battery performance. The latest reports highlighted that in the third quarter that ended on June 28, 2025, the tech giant had sold $44.58 billion worth of iPhones. This figure shows a steep 13% rise from the same time last year.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, has announced the report, confirming that the company has touched its 3 billion sales milestone this year. Per him, “Today Apple is proud to report a June quarter revenue record with double-digit growth in iPhone, Mac, and Services and growth around the world, in every geographic segment.” Notably, this US tech giant touched the 1 billion sales milestone in 2016 and the 2 billion milestone in 2021.

The US tech giant has also witnessed a surge in downloads and developer adoption of iOS 26 beta for its deeper customization and robust security upgrades that have quickly set its standard in the premium smartphone market.

Its revenue from the global market has also witnessed a notable surge, especially in countries like India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, where Apple continues to expand its local manufacturing footprint. Even its sales in China have witnessed a little increase from $14.7 billion to $15.3 billion year-on-year, showing some relief after several challenging quarters.

Is Apple’s Q4 Success Ultimate? Tariff Woes Threaten Next Quarter

The present looks bright for Apple, but there are still roadblocks. The company has warned investors about a rocky way ahead for the renewed tariff policies by the Trump government. This year, Apple has suffered a lot from these tariff policies, and Cook suspects that Apple may have to pay around $1.1 billion in tariffs during the September quarter, which marks a significant rise from $800 million from the previous quarter.

These duties mostly target Apple’s central supply chain, which is China. This Cupertino-based company imports key electronic components and finished products from China, and the new policies have increased taxes on these imports.

Despite having other supplier countries, including India and Vietnam, Apple continues to rely on Chinese manufacturing for key production volumes. In 2025, the tech giant has already faced multiple hurdles regarding supply chain delays and component price increases, which have cost them around $6 billion.

A Decade of Growth, a Year of Strain

From selling just 6.1 million iPhones in its debut year to crossing the 3 billion milestone in 2025, Apple shows an adventurous yet revolutionary journey. Over the years, this tech giant has transformed and shaped the smartphone industry with its models, features, and other components, which have resulted in a loyal ecosystem.

Still, with its strong innovation and record sales, 2025 has exposed one of the primary vulnerabilities of this company. Apple is prepared to fight the external economic and political forces by shifting its US iPhone export section to India. Trump's tariff has cost the company billions this year, but it looks like its strategy and product strength will help it survive in this volatile global market.
