Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone in 2026, marking its entry into the foldable smartphone segment. According to recent insights from JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee, the device will likely be unveiled as part of iPhone 18 series in September 2026, positioning Apple to compete directly with existing foldables like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup.

Rumors around Apple foldable iPhone suggest a sleek design with enhanced multitasking capabilities. iPhone 18 foldable may feature a seamless hinge design and upgraded OLED display technology. If successful, Apple foldable iPhone could set a new benchmark in mobile innovation and durability.

Design and Features

The upcoming foldable iPhone is rumored to adopt a book-style foldable design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Reports suggest the phone could feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen, slightly smaller than its main competitor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is expected to offer an 8-inch internal and 6.5-inch external display.

In terms of dimensions, the foldable iPhone may measure between 9mm to 9.5mm when folded and between 4.5mm to 4.8mm when unfolded, making it slightly bulkier than Samsung’s next-gen foldable, which is rumored to have an 8.9mm folded profile.

Tech insiders believe the iPhone 18 foldable will lead Apple into a new era of flexible device ecosystems. A standout feature of Apple’s version could be a crease-free inner display, a key improvement over current foldable models, and a feature Samsung is also reportedly working to implement in its upcoming devices.

Camera and Hardware

Apple's first foldable device is expected to include a dual rear camera setup, as well as separate front cameras for both the inner and outer displays. While full hardware details remain unclear, the focus appears to be on delivering a high-end experience, with improvements in multitasking, productivity, and display technology.

Price and Market Impact

The Foldable iPhone is expected to debut with a price tag of around $1,999, aligning with premium offerings in the foldable market. JPMorgan estimates that Apple could sell 10 to 15 million units in the fiscal year 2027, with that number growing to 40-45 million units by 2029.

The launch could open a $65 billion revenue opportunity for the company.

Supply Chain and Manufacturing

Foxconn, Apple’s longtime manufacturing partner, is expected to begin production preparations by late 2025, with mass production commencing in the second half of 2026. Component suppliers like Corning (for specialty glass) and Amphenol (for connectors) are expected to benefit from increased demand, driven more by product complexity than sheer volume.

Looking Ahead

The 2026 Apple launch is expected to be the most significant yet, with major announcements in both hardware and AI. As competition in the Foldable Smartphone Market intensifies, all eyes are on iPhone 18 features and how they’ll stand out.

While Apple has not officially confirmed plans for a foldable device, the company’s reported moves suggest a strong strategic push into the evolving foldable market. If successful, the iPhone 18 foldable could set a new standard in premium smartphone design and functionality.
