Although the final release is expected later this year, the beta version is now available for a wide range of supported iPhones. Apple has resolved several issues identified in the developer version seeded last month, and this public beta is more refined and usable for regular users.
Users can receive the update through Apple’s official Beta Software Program. This is Apple’s ongoing process of collecting real-world feedback before rolling out big iOS updates live to everyone.
The beta is easy to install, but caution is recommended. Here’s how:
Open the Settings app
Go to General > Software Update > Beta Updates
Select iOS 26 Public Beta
Enter your device passcode
Download and install the beta
Reminder: Always back up your iPhone through iCloud or iTunes before installing a beta version of iOS. Although this public beta is quite stable, there can still be performance problems or app incompatibilities.
Apple decided to keep a broad range of devices compatible with iOS 16. Supported devices include:
iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd Gen)
iPhone 12 lineup
iPhone 13 lineup
iPhone 14 series
iPhone 15 and 15 Pro models
The just-launched iPhone 16 series
With such vast device support, users with slightly older iPhones can also experience the new iOS 26 features.
iOS 26 introduces a dramatic change in Apple’s design language with the arrival of Liquid Glass. This is a glass-like visual aesthetic that helps UI elements and apps look layered and fluid. The overhaul is for major system areas, including Safari, Phone, Music, Camera, Control Center, and the Lock Screen.
App icons can also now be configured in a translucent mode, providing the home screen a uniform, uncluttered appearance that changes dynamically with the background.
The Lock Screen has been redesigned with 3D photo layering and a dynamic time display that adapts according to the depth of the picture. Notifications and widgets have also been visually enhanced to align with the new design principle, providing a more immersive experience.
Apple is pushing for greater performance using the AI features of iOS 26. Some of the significant additions are:
Live translate: Live language translation when talking
AI shortcuts: Contextual suggestions based on usage habits
Poll suggestions in messages: Intelligent suggestions of polls in group conversations
Visual intelligence: Intelligent picture and object recognition in the gallery and web
These features are intended to make interactions in our daily lives more fluid and intelligent.

iOS 26 also introduces a series of fresh features with an intention geared toward powering up entertaining and productive experiences:
Call screening: Identifies unknown and spam calls
Hold assist: Streamlines long customer service holds
New gaming app: Single destination for all gaming activities, such as updates, gameplay time, and controller support
Genmoji & image playground enhancements: Advanced personification features with new editing and remix capabilities
Apple has been investing very heavily in AI, transparency, and user-focused features since iOS 26. With public beta testing underway, one can get a relatively accurate view of what's to come. User input during this period will also influence the final build, scheduled for around September 2025. This will be done in tandem with the launch of the iPhone 17.
This change isn’t just in design. It reinforces Apple’s growing aspirations in AI integration and digital personalization. All of these enhancements will ready it for the new generation of intelligent mobile experiences.
