Sony could be looking at a new way to bring back some of its older PlayStation games. A recent rumor has pointed out that the company may use smaller projects to revive old series instead of waiting for large first-party games. This could give forgotten franchises another chance and give PlayStation fans more games to choose from.
Several PlayStation series have been quiet for years. Sly Cooper last got a main game in 2013. Jak and Daxter has not had a new main game since 2009. Infamous last appeared with Infamous: Second Son in 2014. Resistance has been away since Resistance 3 in 2011, while Killzone last had a main release with Killzone: Shadow Fall in 2013. The rumor does not confirm that these games are coming back; they only highlight the chance of Sony using the older franchises to fill the gap between major titles.
Big PlayStation games can take many years to make, which leaves players with long gaps between major releases. For example, God of War Laufey, will be released in February 2027. Until Dawn 2 is also scheduled for February 2027. Meanwhile, smaller games based on older series could help fill that space.
A new Sly Cooper or Jak and Daxter game would not need to be as large as a huge open-world game, a smaller entry will be enough with fewer resources and a shorter development time. It could also give Sony a simple way to see if players still care about an old series. A small comeback could be less risky than spending years on a huge game.

PlayStation has many characters and game worlds that players still remember. Bringing some of them back could add more variety without asking Sony to start from zero. For players, the idea is simple: they would not have to wait for another huge game every time. Smaller revival projects could sit between major releases and keep the PlayStation lineup moving.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but if Sony starts using its older games more often, some forgotten names could get a second chance.
