Rockstar Games has updated its official support page with further details about the physical edition of Grand Theft Auto 6, clarifying how boxed copies and the Ultimate Edition upgrade will work. The announcement confirms that players purchasing a physical copy will receive a download code inside the box rather than a traditional game disc.
According to Rockstar's updated information, the physical version will be available for shipping and retail pickup from November 12. The early availability is intended to give buyers enough time to redeem their codes and download the game before release.
Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will be sold in both physical and digital formats. However, the physical Standard Edition will only contain a digital download code. Players will need to redeem it through their respective PlayStation or Xbox accounts to access the game.

The company has also clarified that a physical version of the Ultimate Edition will not be available. Customers interested in the additional content will need to purchase the digital Ultimate Edition or buy the upgrade separately after redeeming their Standard Edition code. This means that buying a boxed copy will not provide players with a disc that can be resold, exchanged or played without downloading the game.

Rockstar's support page also explains that Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the PlayStation or Microsoft digital storefronts. The upgrade includes additional vehicles, weapons, clothing, customisation options and special in-game locations for Jason and Lucia. GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
