Sony is reportedly granted permission for a new Killzone game. A new report claimed that Guerrilla Games is working with another studio on a remake or remaster of the classic shooter. The first game of the series was released in 2004 on PlayStation 2. Over the span of nine years, the franchise got multiple games, with the last one, Killzone: Shadow Fall, released in 2013 on PS4.
The upcoming project is still in the early stages, so there is no release date yet. Sony and Guerrilla Games have not confirmed anything about the next entry in the series. However, rumors still point out that the next Killzone game may arrive before Horizon 3.
The next Horizon game is said to be several years away, while a smaller team is believed to be working on it. Guerrilla is also linked to Horizon Hunters Gathering, another project that has faced changes. People Can Fly, the Polish developer studio, is reportedly working on the Killzone project, though its exact role is still unclear.
Killzone has been missing from PlayStation for years. A remake could give Sony a chance to bring the series to modern consoles without starting from scratch. The first game sold around 2 million copies; considering that, the new version could help the shooter find a fresh audience. It could also bring older fans back to the series.

Based on the current report, Killzone appears to have a better chance of arriving first. The project is already said to be in development, while Horizon 3 seems much further away. Still, plans can change. Killzone is reportedly in its early stages, so fans should not expect a launch anytime soon.
A return could give Sony another major shooter series to work with. For now, the biggest question is whether the reported project is real. Until Sony speaks, Killzone fans will have to wait.
