Meta has launched passkey login support for Facebook users on mobile. The feature offers a more secure and seamless login experience. It eliminates the need for traditional passwords. iOS and Android users are receiving the update now. Support for Messenger will arrive in the coming months.

Users can log in using biometrics or a device PIN with Facebook passkeys. This includes fingerprint scans, facial recognition, or simple PINs. The passkey is stored securely on the user’s device. It prevents password theft via phishing or data leaks.

“Passkeys are a new way to verify your identity and log in to your account that’s easier and more secure than traditional passwords,” Meta said in an official statement.

What Are Passkeys and How Do They Work?

Passkeys are part of a global move toward passwordless login methods. They provide both security and user-friendliness. Once set up, you can log in using your phone’s built-in security. This means Face ID, Touch ID, or a PIN replaces your old login details.

Meta confirmed that passkeys will also work for Messenger in the future. The same passkey will help autofill payment info during Meta Pay purchases.

How to Set Up a Facebook Passkey?

Meta made it simple to activate passkeys. Here are the steps:

Go to Accounts Center: Open Facebook's mobile app settings and find the Accounts Center.

Choose Passkey Setup: Select the passkey option to begin setup.

Follow Device Prompts: Use your fingerprint, face scan, or PIN to authenticate.

Start Logging In with Passkey: Once done, you can use it for future logins on supported devices.

Some users may be prompted to set up a passkey during their next Facebook login.

Traditional Logins Still Supported

Meta assures users that traditional methods will still work. You can continue using passwords or other authentication options. This is helpful if your device does not support passkeys yet.

What’s Next for Passkey Use?

Meta plans to extend passkey login to Messenger soon. It also aims to boost passkey use for Meta Pay transactions. This is part of a wider tech industry trend. Passwords are slowly being replaced by safer and easier alternatives.
