Lenovo has launched a smartphone that puts learning before entertainment. The newly launched model, called AI Student Phone, is designed for students who need a distraction-free study environment. Unlike most smartphones, it blocks web browsers and social media apps.
The phone comes with AI-powered learning features to help students with their studies. At the same time, parents get better control over how the device is used. The launch comes as many families worry about the amount of time children spend online.
Instead of offering more apps and features, Lenovo has taken a different path. The company believes a simpler phone can help students stay focused.
The AI Student Phone is designed mainly for school students. It includes AI tools that support learning and everyday study. The biggest difference is that Lenovo has eliminated all kinds of games, web browsers, and social media apps that generally distract students. Instead, the 1.83-inch touchscreen phone with a 1,850mAh battery is focused on AI-assisted learning, location tracking, and parental controls.
The biggest advantage is that parents have several control options. They can decide which apps their children can use, set screen time limits, and check how the phone is being used. They can turn on Classroom mode, block unknown callers, and control the activities from other devices remotely.
Parents will get an alert if the set boundary is breached. These settings help parents guide their children's phone habits without taking the device away completely.
The highlight feature is the physical AI button that students can press to activate the voice assistant and ask for help while studying. Currently, the device is launched in China at around 299 yuan (nearly Rs. 4,000). Lenovo says the goal is to give students a device that helps them learn instead of pulling their attention away from schoolwork.
For years, smartphone companies have tried to add more features every year. Now, some brands are doing the opposite. They are removing features that many people see as distractions. In recent years, digital detox phones and minimalist phones have gained massive attention. These devices cut down on social media, games, and other apps that keep people glued to their screens.
Lenovo's new phone follows the same idea but adds AI learning tools. Instead of filling the phone with entertainment, it is built to help students stay focused. If more parents like this idea, other companies could launch similar devices in the future.

The AI Student Phone feels different from a regular smartphone. The model has built-in AI and can handle basic tasks like calling and messaging; still, its main job is to support learning.
The AI features, along with strong parental controls, make it closer to a learning device than an entertainment gadget. This could be where the market is heading. Companies are starting to build phones for specific needs instead of trying to make one device for everyone. For many students and parents, that may be the biggest feature of all.
