Google’s AI assistant app, Gemini, has reached a major milestone of 450 million monthly active users worldwide. This is a huge achievement considering its journey from an experimental solution to a mass utility.
Shekhar Khosla, Vice President of Marketing at Google India, broke the news in a recent LinkedIn update, highlighting the steep increase in usage.
According to him, Google Gemini has seen a 50% quarter-on-quarter jump in daily interactions, reflecting growing comfort and dependence on AI for everyday tasks.
India has emerged as a cornerstone of Gemini’s user base as Google’s localization strategy has been instrumental. It has supported 12 Indian languages, offering deep integration with Android devices. The collaborations with Indian developers to build customized Gemini-based apps have also been a significant breakthrough. All these have contributed to its widespread adoption.
The AI-powered assistant is now integrated throughout Google’s ecosystem, including Pixel phones, the Chrome browser, and Google Messages, making it readily available to both rural and urban users. With several phones now featuring Android integration, including Gemini pre-installed or integrated into Google Assistant, entry barriers have dramatically decreased.
Gemini is much more than a chatbot. It provides an extensive array of AI-powered functionalities, such as:
Document summarization
Email composition
Live translation
Code and image creation
Voice and text-based question answering
The application is available on Android and iOS, with future releases promising offline support and voice-led interactions tailored for Indian users and network conditions.
Gemini is the extension of Google’s overall AI integration drive. Alphabet’s Q2 2025 revenue report came in with Rs 8.02 lakh crore (approx. $96.4 billion) in revenue, an increase of 14% from last year, primarily through AI and cloud services.
Gemini is now an overarching layer across Google products, including Workspace, Search, and developer platforms. It facilitates everything from auto-email responses to code suggestions.

While competitors like OpenAI and Meta are rushing to secure market share, Google’s gamble on device-level integration, regional personalization, and enterprise flexibility is clearly paying off.
The development of a large-scale AI deployment laboratory is underway. Training programs in India are developing skills in sales and legal processes while also fostering a sense of geographic familiarity within the region.
The growth of Gemini's user base should not be viewed as a mere vanity metric. It signifies the emergence of AI assistants that are becoming increasingly integrated into our daily digital lives, transforming how we communicate, work, and learn.
