Google is rolling out Google Discover AI prompts in the Google app within the coming days. The update lets users customize content recommendations through natural language prompts.
The feature targets Discover users who want more control over their feeds without managing individual topics. Google will use AI to understand requests and adjust recommendations directly within Discover.
The new AI feed customization tool will appear through the three dot menu on Discover cards. Users can describe topics, stories, or links they want more or less often.
Google says the feed will adjust on the fly and remember these requests for future visits. The feature will also support follow-up instructions when the first preference needs further refinement.
Google described the upcoming change simply: “Soon it will be as easy to tune your Discover feed as it is to text a friend.”
After entering a preference, the AI will explain how it plans to prioritize content. Users can refine the request before refreshing the feed with the updated recommendations. This approach moves Discover beyond signals from Search activity and other Google products.
The change could also make niche interests easier to express through conversational instructions. Instead of selecting separate topics, a detailed request can combine preferred subjects and unwanted content.
Google is expanding personalization beyond Discover with a new Preferred Sources button for publishers. Readers can select the button directly on participating websites and add those publishers to Google preferences.
Preferred sources can appear more often across Top Stories, AI Overviews, and AI Mode. Google says users have already selected more than 600,000 unique sources.
Meanwhile, Google News on Android is getting customizable audio briefings. Users can choose specific topics, while briefings will include source attribution and links to full articles.
