Google and Adani Enterprises partnered up to create a $15 billion (₹1.3 lakh crore) Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. It will be Google's largest data centre outside the United States. This is a huge milestone in cementing India's position as a world AI innovation hub.

A Gigawatt-Scale Data Centre Campus

The new facility will have a 1 GW (gigawatt) data centre campus that will address the increasing demand for digital services in India and worldwide. The hub has been developed by AdaniConneX and Airtel in collaboration with Google. The hub will have infrastructure of AI, advanced fibre-optic networks, and renewable energy systems to enable Google's products like Search, YouTube, and Workspace.

The project involves an international subsea gateway, new and state-of-the-art, linking Visakhapatnam to Google's global network of more than two million miles of terrestrial and subsea cables, enhancing connectivity and latency in Asia and beyond.

Investment and Economic Impact

The $15 billion investment will be used in the period 2026-2030 in line with India's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Based on Google, the project may create $15 billion in US GDP in the same timeframe as a result of more trade, talent flow, and AI adoption.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu welcomed the project as "a new chapter in India's digital transformation journey," adding that it will locate India's first gigawatt-scale data centre in Visakhapatnam.

Powering India's AI Revolution

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani referred to the project as ‘the engine to power India's AI revolution.’ Thus, highlighting that the centre will accommodate TPU and GPU-based compute capacity needed for deep learning, neural network training, and large-scale AI model development. The project is expected to propel innovation in critical sectors like healthcare, agriculture, logistics, and finance. It would also promote digital inclusivity and the adoption of clean energy.

A Sustainable and Strategic Leap

Google assured that the Visakhapatnam data centre will be one of its most power-efficient, built in association with local partners to provide sustainable power generation and storage. With its proximity, the facility will diversify India's digital infrastructure from Mumbai and Chennai, furthering the country's position in the international AI and cloud ecosystem.
