Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) has updated its creator payout rules. The news comes as the Middle East conflict between the US, Iran, and Israel escalates. The new rules aim to curtail AI-generated war content as online traffic surges, and concerns grow over misleading content. Under the update, creators who post AI-made videos of armed conflicts without proper disclosure will be suspended. They will face a 90-day suspension from monetisation.

New Revenue Sharing Rules for AI Content

X has revised its Creator Revenue Sharing programme to prevent misuse during wartime. Other updates include, in case of repeated violation of the above mentioned rule by the same account, X will permanently remove it from the revenue-sharing program.

The company said such posts may be flagged through Community Notes or identified through metadata and other signals from AI tools. The goal is to stop creators from earning money through misinformation or unclear AI-generated war footage.

Focus on Authentic Information

X Product Head Nikita Bier said the company wants to make sure that people can access real information without worrying about authenticity. He noted that modern AI tools make it easy to create realistic but false videos. In a fast-moving conflict, such content can spread quickly and confuse users. To improve transparency, X has also introduced a ‘Made with AI’ label. This tag would help viewers understand what they are watching.

Rising Traffic and Stronger Spam Controls

Bier recently warned that advanced AI agents could lead to a rise in automated spam across digital platforms. In response, X has strengthened its spam detection systems. Accounts showing signs of non-human interaction face a high risk of suspension. The company had earlier removed around 1.7 million bots to clean up spam-heavy reply sections.

What This Means for Creators and Users

Creators must now follow the strict rules if they don’t want to lose payouts or worse, get blacklisted on X. The new policy signals that the platform is taking a tougher stance on AI misuse, especially during sensitive global events. For users, the changes aim to make the platform more reliable at a time when accurate information is critical.
