Elden Ring is a sprawling, mystical realm developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco. Upon its release in February 2022, the game garnered widespread acclaim and established itself as a landmark title within its genre. The subsequent launch of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2024 further expanded the game's rich lore and gameplay mechanics.
In 2025, the introduction of Everdark Sovereigns introduced innovative boss phases characterized by evolving mechanics and time-limited rotations, presenting players with formidable challenges. These encounters have continued to captivate the gaming community, offering novel rewards and deepening the narrative complexity of the game.
Everdark Sovereigns are enhanced versions of already existing Nightlords, one of the famous boss fights in Nightreign. They’ve been enhanced with new mechanics and added difficulty for an exclusive challenge, as well as cosmetic Relics and gear.
Defeating an Everdark Sovereign will reward you with Sovereign Sigils, a very special currency for exchange in Roundtable Hold.
Despite the announcement, July features Everdark Sovereigns that are still pending reworks. The updated schedule, sourced from Steam and official channels, is as follows:
The design encourages short farming opportunities, allowing each variant to be farmed twice throughout the month, taking into account earlier concerns about short rotations raised by some in the community.
On Reddit, people have had their share of opinions: “Week with Darkdrift Knight, then another week with Darkdrift Knight, and next is a week of Gaping Jaw.”
Another was just glad to tackle bosses, finally they've been unable to: “I think I'll live if Nightreign is rotating some bosses I've beaten already...but still enjoy for a singular month or two.”

The Sentient Pest has undergone a complete transformation since its inception. In the days of yore, the fight was an easy one. However, an Everdark Sovereign infused with Animus: Ascendant Light now possesses a spectral form, which brought intense multi-stage dynamics to the fight.
As challenging as it is, those who overcome it are rewarded with a mighty Relic, which restores FP.
While July pays tribute to repeats, there is word about new Everdark Sovereigns launching somewhere in August and beyond. These are:
Augur
Equilibrious Beast
Fissure in the Fog
Although the release dates remain unconfirmed, the community suggests keeping a lookout for announcements early in the week.
Finishing off the base Nightlord versions is your first task; only then do their Everdark forms become accessible.
Prepare equipment based on boss vulnerabilities (i.e., Gaping Jaw is weak to poison/Scarlet Rot).
Since the rotations are ongoing all week, there is flexibility, so there is no need to rush.
The Nightreign Everdark event of July 2025 brings back enhanced versions of the old bosses to allow the full participation of a player before the new wave is released. The upgraded encounter with the Sentient Pest has been a standout moment in the event.
It showcases FromSoftware's skill in transforming a familiar enemy into a fresh and formidable challenge. A promise looms of four upcoming Sovereigns ready to deliver fresh challenges.
