Apple is set to launch a low-cost MacBook in early 2026. This new laptop will mark the tech giant’s entry into the budget market, where Chromebooks and Windows laptops have ruled for years.
Reports from Bloomberg and other tech sites suggest the new Mac laptop is already in early production at Apple’s overseas suppliers. The company is also testing the devices in its labs. The goal is to build a laptop that offers the Mac experience at a much lower price.
The new budget MacBook will target students, office employees, and casual users who mostly perform simple tasks like browsing the web, editing documents, and watching videos. It will also appeal to people who want a regular laptop instead of an iPad.
The upcoming Mac is expected to have a fresh design with a smaller screen than the 13.6-inch MacBook Air. It will also have a lower-end LCD to help cut costs. Instead of Apple’s usual M-series chip, this model may use an A-series processor, similar to the ones used in iPhones. Reports suggest that this chip could even perform better than the old M1 chip while using less battery power.
Apple plans to price the new laptop under $1,000, possibly around $600 to $700, making it much cheaper than MacBook Air. This price could help the company attract new users who cannot afford its current laptops.
The launch timing is also smart. Microsoft is about to stop support for Windows 10, and this will definitely drive a lot of people who are using old laptops to look for new ones. Apple aims to target that crowd by offering a simple and reliable laptop running macOS.
Experts believe this new move could help Apple gain more users who prefer devices like Chromebooks for their affordability. The laptop, codenamed J700, could help more people join the Apple ecosystem without spending too much.
If Apple can balance price, design, and performance, its first budget MacBook might change the market in 2026 and challenge Google and Microsoft in the low-cost laptop segment.
