WhatsApp is now available on Apple Watch with the release of a new companion app. This application allows users to read, reply, and send voice messages directly from their wrists. The announcement on Tuesday marks a major step for the Meta-owned service, as it enhances integration with Apple’s ecosystem.

“This new experience will help you stay on top of your chats without needing to pull out your iPhone,” WhatsApp revealed in a blog post. The app is designed to provide users with fast access to messages and notifications while still maintaining the hallmark WhatsApp privacy protections.

What Can Users Do with WhatsApp on Apple Watch?

The WhatsApp companion app brings several features long requested by users: the ability to view full message threads, record and send voice messages, and react to texts with emojis, just like an iPhone. Users will also be able to view call notifications, clearer images, and stickers right from their Apple Watch.

The application also provides access to recent chat history for easier conversations on the go. WhatsApp, on its part, assured that all chats and calls on the watch app remain end-to-end encrypted, just as they do on its mobile and desktop versions.

Who Can Use the WhatsApp Companion App?

This feature is available on Apple Watch Series 4 and later models, running watchOS 10 or newer. It automatically pairs and syncs with its companion app on the iPhone to keep messages and updates in real time.

How Does the Apple Ecosystem Update Fare Against Its Competitors?

The move places WhatsApp ahead of competitors like Snapchat, which also launched its own Watch app earlier this year, but with limited functionality. Snapchat allows for notifications and basic replies, but doesn’t support viewing Snaps or extended chat history.

Why the Apple Watch Chat Update Matters

The rollout highlights a growing focus on Apple users. Earlier this year, WhatsApp launched a dedicated iPad app, a long-overdue addition that eliminated the need for the web interface.

The watch version still does not offer options to initiate new chats, voice or video calls, or view status updates, but it offers a leap in convenience: staying connected without reaching for your phone.
