Apple began another round of targeted job cuts in the US, with the latest reductions affecting a small number of employees linked to its Fitness+ audio operations. The latest layoffs involve employees working on audio content for Apple Fitness+, Time to Walk and Time to Run. The changes do not indicate that Apple is shutting down Fitness+. Instead, the company is reportedly reducing the frequency of some original audio content as it reviews the service's operations.
Software engineer Marko Crnković said, “ His Apple exit came exactly 10 years after he moved to California with the ambition of eventually working for the company. According to his account, his final day is scheduled for October 19, 2026.”
Crnković also indicated that the decision came unexpectedly. He had recently been involved in projects that were announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference. His account illustrates how ongoing organisational changes can affect employees even after years with the company.
Apple's latest cuts follow a broader restructuring announced in August. The company confirmed that the changes would affect existing roles while also creating new positions. More than 200 positions were reportedly impacted across Vision Pro, Siri and related software teams.
The restructuring comes as Apple redirects resources towards artificial intelligence and future hardware. Its Siri teams are upgrading as Apple works on a new AI-focused architecture. The tech giant also reduced some in-house investment in Vision Pro gaming and immersive video.
The latest Fitness+ reductions suggest Apple's workforce restructuring is continuing on a targeted basis. The changes span different businesses, from digital assistants and spatial computing to subscription content.
