Oracle started another round of layoffs across its global operations, with India facing fresh job cuts. The September 14 round began in the United States before reaching Indian teams the next day. Employees reported losing system access before receiving termination emails around 6 am. The company cited a ‘broader organizational change’ while redirecting resources toward artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure.

The latest Oracle layoffs affected product engineering teams across major Indian technology hubs, including Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Industry reports estimate that 1,000 to 3,000 Indian employees could face cuts in this round. Oracle did not confirm the exact number, while earlier 2026 restructuring already reduced its global workforce by about 21,000 employees.

The notification process drew attention for its unusually abrupt timing. Some employees reportedly lost access to computers, email, voicemail and internal files before receiving formal communication. The termination message from Oracle Leadership stated, “Today is your last working day,” according to reported copies.

Employees then received instructions to provide personal email addresses for separation documents and severance information. The reported US package includes four weeks of base salary plus one additional week for each completed year of service. Indian packages reportedly vary, with employee discussions describing different settlement formulas.

Long tenure also became a defining part of the latest stories. LinkedIn posts highlighted employees with 12 years and even 33 years at Oracle among those affected. One widely shared post from Pooja Sahu described her husband Sourabh losing his Oracle role after 12 years of service.

The layoffs follow a major restructuring already recorded during fiscal 2026. Oracle reported around 141,000 employees at the fiscal year-end after reducing its workforce by approximately 13%. The company also recorded about USD 1.8 billion in restructuring expenses during fiscal 2026.

Oracle raised its estimated restructuring costs by about USD 700 million in September. The updated figure now stands near USD 2.8 billion, covering severance and other exit costs. Oracle also reported USD 28.5 billion in quarterly capital expenditure, highlighting its rapid infrastructure expansion.

The spending reflects Oracle’s push into AI data centers and cloud infrastructure. The company maintained a USD 90 billion to USD 95 billion capital expenditure forecast for fiscal 2027. The latest layoffs therefore connect workforce restructuring with a broader shift toward AI-focused infrastructure investment.
