Key Takeaways

  • Borderlands 4, one of the most anticipated games of 2025, is coming earlier than expected.

  • The game is bringing four new Vault Hunters. Along with that, two iconic ones coming back to the game as NPCs.

  • Amara and Maya are making their way back to the upcoming title by assisting players in missions.

Borderlands 4, one of the most-anticipated releases of 2025 is now confirmed. Initially, Gearbox Software has officially stated the release date to be September 23, 2025. Surprised the fans, this release date is now preponed and the game is coming 11 days early, on September 12,2025.

With the release date being confirmed, fans are all excited about the gameplay and most importantly the cast of the game. While the rumors have been circulating around the introduction of new characters, the developer team officially unveiled them. It’s time to meet four fresh protagonists: Harlowe, Vex, Rafa, and Amon. However, Amara and Maya are also making their way back into the game.

Introduction To Four Newly Joined Protagonists in Borderlands 4

The game will introduce multiple fresh Vault Hunters, but nothing much has been revealed about any of them. For example, Amon the Forgeknight seems to be the answer to fans’ long demand melee berserker. He is the one who’s capable of blocking damage with the shield, and as the trailer has shown, he can charge in with melee weapons. While he can wield two axes at a time, he can even switch to a massive sword the next moment.

The second character to meet is Rafa, the Exo-Soldier. He seems to be the fighter in the game who uses all the technologies, ranging from an experimental exo-suit to dish out damage to eliminate opponents. As the trailer shows, he can convert enemies into red mist using his Arc Knives. He even has a high-power energy pistol to blast enemies.

The third fresh character introduced in Borderlands 4 is Harlowe, the Gravitar. Again, Gearbox has kept specific details under wraps. So, it’s hard for one to tell what exactly she will bring to the game. However, as per the trailer, she can keep enemies inside bubble wrap and make them stay in the same place. These bubbles seem to be better than Maya’s Phaselock ability in Borderlands 2.

Despite, Harlowe doesn’t belong to the Siren class, her ability to utilize advanced technology and gadgets in combat brings a unique blend of science and firepower which draws a parallel to the Siren class. Her crowd control technique can be a game-changer during any battle.

The final entry is Vex the Siren. This character wields her phase energy to launch heavy attacks on enemies. Her tough upbringing has made her cynical, pessimistic, and sarcastic. Her skills and abilities are pre-introduced, unlike others’. So, players already know that she is coming with Action Skills like Incarnate, Phase Phamiliar, etc., to become a heavy entry in the Vault Hunters team

Amara and Maya: Guiding Lights in the New Frontier

The new cast is exciting, but the return of Amara and Maya is no less interesting. Maya is the iconic vault hunter in the franchise. The death of Maya in Borderlands 3, disheartened players a lot. Most players didn’t agree to accept the fate she met in the game. So, her return has created a wave of excitement among fans.

Amara, on the other hand, was a formidable Siren in Borderlands 3, and once again, she is coming back in Borderlands 4. However, it looks like both these characters are making their way to the upcoming installment as NPCs, who will assist players in their quests across Kairos. This new role will add new dimensions to these characters as they will provide these newly recruited vault hunters with proper guidance and support during critical missions.

Conclusion

Borderlands 4 promises to deliver a rich gameplay experience in an engaging in-game world by combining newly introduced characters with the iconic ones. The introduction of Harlowe seems to serve as a link between Maya and Amara, with her scientific prowess to continue the Siren lineage further. It will offer a fresh yet familiar gameplay style.

At the same time, Amara’s role as a mentor and Maya’s abilities ensure that the spirit of the Sirens will rise through the gameplay. As players keep going through the journey across Kairos, they can look forward to paying tribute to the rich legacy of the franchise and feel the essence of the Borderlands saga.
