Meta has brought its personal AI agent, Muse, to Mac with a dedicated desktop app. The move gives Muse a bigger role in users' daily lives, letting it work directly with files, messages, and apps stored on a computer, not just on a phone or browser.
Muse launched on September 8th in the US across iOS, Android, the web and WhatsApp. The Mac app is its latest expansion, and it shows how seriously Meta is pursuing the agentic AI space.
Muse is built to handle real tasks. On Mac, users can ask it to sort files, pull information from Messages, Calendar, or Notes, and fill out forms using saved documents. It works across a user's full digital routine, cutting down the back-and-forth of moving information between apps manually.
One standout feature is that Muse keeps working even after the app is closed. It comes back when it needs the user's input or when a task is ready. That kind of background operation sets it apart from most AI tools today, which stop the moment you stop talking.
Meta has given users clear control over what Muse can access. Access to the computer is opt-in. Full Disk Access is optional. Users can adjust permissions at any time through Mac settings.
On the technical side, Muse runs through something called Muse Secure VM. It is a private virtual space that gives the agent its own browser, storage, and computing environment. Meta says this setup keeps the agent away from sensitive login details and manages actions involving connected services.

The Mac launch is part of Meta's wider push toward AI that does things, not just says things. Muse is designed to take on multi-step tasks like sending emails or booking travel, with minimal input from the user.
For now, Muse is only available in the US. Meta plans to expand it further in the coming months.
