Apple is preparing a new round of Mac updates, with new M6-powered iMac and entry-level MacBook Pro models expected ahead of its much-anticipated touchscreen MacBook Pro launch. The move reflects the company's effort to update its computer lineup while preparing for a bigger change in how users interact with Mac laptops.

According to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, Apple plans to introduce an updated 24-inch iMac and a base 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring its M6 chip. The company has not publicly confirmed all the reported product details.

M6 Chip Takes Center Stage in New Mac

The M6 processor is expected to be the main upgrade in both computers. The refreshed iMac will likely replace the current M4 model, while the entry-level MacBook Pro will move beyond its M5 processor.

However, buyers should not expect a major redesign. Reports suggest both devices will retain their current designs, with the new chip as the main change. The iMac is expected to keep its 24-inch display, while the entry-level MacBook Pro should retain its 14-inch screen and familiar chassis. Apple may also introduce new iMac color options, though available reports do not confirm which colors could be added.

Touchscreen MacBook Pro Could Be the Bigger Upgrade

The M6 models are expected to arrive ahead of Apple's more significant MacBook Pro update. The company has announced a product event titled “Pro and tell” for October 28, 2026, in Los Angeles.

Bloomberg has reported that Apple plans to introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models as part of this launch cycle. The upcoming premium laptops are expected to feature OLED displays, a thinner and lighter design, and Apple's Dynamic Island interface.

Unlike the entry-level M6 MacBook Pro, the redesigned premium models are reportedly expected to use M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. This would allow Apple to introduce touchscreen functionality and display improvements separately from its standard chip refresh.

What Apple's Mac Refresh Means for Buyers

The reported launch strategy gives buyers two different upgrade paths. Those who want a familiar Mac with a newer processor may prefer the refreshed iMac or entry-level MacBook Pro. Users looking for a more substantial change may want to wait for details about the touchscreen models.

Pricing, final specifications, and availability for the refreshed M6 computers remain unconfirmed in the cited reports. Buyers should therefore wait for Apple's official announcements before making decisions based on expected features.

The upcoming launches could mark an important moment for Apple's Mac lineup. The M6 updates would bring newer silicon to existing designs, while the touchscreen MacBook Pro could introduce a new interaction style to the company's laptops. Whether that change appeals to professional users will become clearer once Apple reveals the final products.
