The new iPad mini features an 8.5-inch OLED screen, up from 8.3 inches on the previous model. OLED technology allows individual pixels to switch off completely, delivering deeper blacks and stronger contrast than a traditional LCD panel. Apple has also reduced the bezels to increase the display area without making the tablet significantly larger.
The device is available with a standard display or an optional matte nano-texture finish. Storage options range from 128GB to 512GB, giving buyers more room for apps, documents, photos, and downloaded media.
Apple has equipped the new tablet with its A20 Pro processor, replacing the A17 Pro chip found in the previous generation. The upgrade is expected to improve performance across gaming, creative applications, and demanding workloads.
The higher-end configuration also offers enhanced neural processing capabilities for AI-related tasks. Apple has added its N1 networking chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Cellular versions use Apple's C2 modem.
These changes give the compact tablet newer connectivity and processing hardware, making it better suited to users who want a powerful device in a portable format.

One of the biggest changes is the iPad mini's IP67 dust- and water-resistance rating. Apple redesigned the audio system with its Acoustic Display technology, placing the speakers beneath the display instead of relying on conventional speaker openings.
Removing those openings helps limit the paths through which water and dust can enter the device. The tablet is also 14% thinner and 13% lighter than its predecessor, according to the report.
The front-facing camera has been repositioned to make video calls and FaceTime sessions more convenient, particularly when the tablet is held horizontally.

The new iPad mini starts at USD 699 in the US, up USD 100 from the previous model's USD 599 starting price. Buyers can choose between Midnight and Starlight finishes. Pre-orders begin on October 28, while retail availability starts November 6. At the top end, a model with 512GB storage, cellular connectivity, and the matte nano-texture display can cost up to USD 1,249.
The higher price reflects Apple's combination of an OLED screen, a faster processor, and added durability. Whether these upgrades justify the increase will depend on how much buyers value a premium display and water resistance in a compact tablet.
