Microsoft has refreshed its Xbox Game Pass lineup for April 2026. Although the range is massive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) has stolen the limelight along with some indie titles. This update essentially hints at Microsoft’s push to balance renowned franchises with fresh releases to keep players engaged.

Gaming enthusiasts and analysts opine that frequent content drops have become a competitive advantage as subscription services intensify. Xbox Game Pass April’s lineup shows Microsoft focusing on variety, visibility, and long-term player retention.

Games Added to Xbox Game Pass in April 2026

Every month the gaming giant brings some surprises for Game Pass subscribers. April isn’t an exception. This month’s lineup has a wide range of games, from sports simulations to strategy titles and indie adventures.

It clearly shows that Microsoft is mostly focused on variety. However it is still maintaining a consistent title flow across Game Pass tiers. Below are the titles that are going to be added to the subscription service this month:

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)

  • DayZ

  • Endless Legend 2

  • Planet Coaster 2

  • Tiny Bookshop

  • Hades 2

  • Replaced (Day-one release)

  • NHL 26 (via EA Play)

  • Vampire Crawlers (Day-one release)

  • Kiln (Day-one release)

  • Aphelion

  • Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era

Games that are scheduled to move between one tier and another are:

  • Little Rocket Lab

  • Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Sopa: Tale of the Stolen Potato

  • Little Rocket Lab

  • Final Fantasy 4

  • FBC: Firebreak

  • Football Manager 26

  • The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered

All these games will be added or moved between April 8 and April 24 to ensure players continuously have new games throughout the month. Additionally, it encourages users to explore higher subscription tiers, thereby strengthening the long-term revenue model behind Game Pass.

Limited Call of Duty Selection Despite Microsoft Owning Activision

After Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, fans expected to see COD titles on Xbox, especially on Game Pass. However in the last three years only a handful of Call of Duty titles have been added to the Game Pass library.

The reason is unknown but the rollout is gradual. Considering the growing competition, this might be a strategic move rather than a technical limitation. At present the games that players can access on Game Pass include:

  • Call of Duty: World War II

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023)

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

These are only a few from the vast sea of Call of Duty titles. However probably this selective approach is taken to maintain excitement and revenue from each entry. Additionally it helps the company manage server demand and licensing agreements for older titles.

Can Day-One Indie Releases Drive the Next Wave of Growth?

The arrival of Modern Warfare (2019) has attracted attention but the test still lies in adding indies. This month three day-one releases will come to Game Pass including Replaced, Vampire Crawlers, and Kiln. These titles represent a strategic shift. Smaller games often don’t get enough attention. So, this day one addition to Game Pass will bring these titles visibility and thousands of players instantly.

If one of these games becomes a blockbuster hit, it will validate Microsoft’s long-term investment in day-one releases. However, if player engagement fades quickly, the gaming giant has to reevaluate its strategy.
