Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was released this February with a decent reception from the community players. Initially, fans were all unanimously praising the game for its gameplay, but soon the cord was cut. As players progressed through the game, many of them found out one in-game feature is completely removed in the sequel, which is breaking their immersion.

The sequel to the 2018 game has excelled its predecessor in many ways. Still, there are a few areas where this latest installment lacks. Among them, the NPC behavior change has divided players into different groups to debate for and against this removal.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2- NPC Behavior Breaking Immersion

Set in the year 1403, the gameplay takes players to an open world where the gameplay revolves around the city of Kuttenberg. Here players have to explore areas, complete missions, and interact with NPCs to progress through the storyline. In this game, the protagonist Henry isn’t a knight, but as players reach the middle of the game, Henry gets his expensive knightly gear. The issue arises when the NPCs refuse to respect him as a knight after that.

A lot of players probably never noticed that, but on Reddit, Unusual_Barber_62 pointed out this change of NPC behavior and mentioned, “It’s just strange to have people talk to you like you are a normal person when you are clad in full plate armor, worth more than their entire salary.”

Generally, RPGs go some extra miles to create immersion. KCD2 isn’t an exception. However, players mentioned this is interrupting their engagement. Notably, the prequel had NPCs honor Henry as a Knight when he used to wear full armor.

On Reddit, players have brought up the reference to highlight the change of NPC behaviors in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. One user mentioned, “They did it in the first game, in KCD1 if you wore a lot of armor NPCs would address you as a knight, so it’s weird that now Henry is more established, and discovered his ties to nobility they completely removed the feature.”

As per some players, this removal has affected the gameplay and especially the immersion of gamers.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2- Community Reactions About This Decision

Since this Reddit post came to light, a number of players have joined the discussion with their opinions. While a group echoes the same sentiment as Unusual_Barber_62, others have countered it. The poster mentioned, “I don’t wear my plate armour when I am out doing quests anymore, which kind of sucks. When I do wear plate armour it ruins immersion.”

In contrast, players have mentioned that Kuttenberg is a big city where NPCs are used to seeing people wearing armor. The first installment was set in a small village where people wearing armor is a big deal. So, they used to honor Henry as a knight, but the Kuttenberg people don’t. This has divided the community in half.

Conclusion

To sum up, it’s hard to say why Warhorse Studios has taken this decision to change the NPC behaviors, but the counter reasons explain the logic to some extent. Well, that may or may not be what the developers considered. Fortunately, it's a small issue that affected only a few players, and the rest never noticed it.

Here players must be careful of one thing: they shouldn’t roam around without armor just because of this. The game often lets them meet bandits and other enemies where, without armor, players can lose their lives. So, it’s better not to mind such a minor thing and progress with wearing armor.
