President Donald Trump hosted a White House crypto summit on August 19, bringing regulators and industry leaders together. The meeting focused on digital asset rules, tokenization, prediction markets, and US leadership.

SEC Chair Paul Atkins, CFTC Chair Michael Selig, and crypto adviser Patrick Witt joined executives from Coinbase, Ripple, NASDAQ, and other firms. The talks came as Congress struggled to advance the CLARITY Act, while Bitcoin traded near $64,600.

Trump used the summit to press for faster crypto policy progress as regulators pursue new frameworks. The White House meeting took place in Washington, D.C., one day before the CFTC’s first Innovation Advisory Committee session. The gathering highlighted growing links between crypto companies, Wall Street, and traditional financial markets.

Trump said, “We’re leading by a lot” in AI and crypto, while stressing the need to maintain US leadership. He also urged lawmakers to move forward with the CLARITY Act, which would clarify SEC and CFTC responsibilities.

The legislation faces a hurdle in the Senate after lawmakers left Washington for the August recess without a vote. Prediction market odds for passage this year have fallen to around 20%, compared with nearly 80% earlier in 2026.

The delay has increased attention on agency action from the SEC and CFTC. The SEC is considering exemptions and safe harbors for some token offerings. The CFTC is also advancing crypto market initiatives that could offer faster regulatory guidance.

Bitcoin gained about 0.6% and traded near $64,600 around the summit. Crypto stocks moved lower, with Coinbase falling about 2.8% and Robinhood dropping nearly 4.9%.

Tokenization and prediction markets remain key areas for regulators and financial firms. The CFTC’s Innovation Advisory Committee will continue those discussions on August 20.

The market now awaits concrete policy moves, especially ahead of the Senate’s expected September return. Without legislation, agency rulemaking could shape the next phase of US crypto regulation.
