Google is giving students a new way to prepare for exams, with CEO Sundar Pichai highlighting a new quiz feature coming to Google Search. The tool is designed to turn exam preparation into a more interactive experience. It will allow students to test their understanding instead of simply reading search results. Pichai shared the update as Google continues to expand Search's role in education and learning.

Search Can Now Help with Test Preparation

Traditionally, students have used Google Search to find study material, explanations, and answers to questions. The new approach moves beyond information discovery by allowing Search to become part of the revision process.

Students preparing for NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), JEE (Joint Entrance Examination), GRE (Graduate Record Examination), SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test), AP (Advanced Placement), MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) and other premier tests will now be able to access ‘personalized study at home’ experience with Google Search, Gemini, YouTube and other education tools of Google.

Google has been adding more learning-focused capabilities to Search as competition in the education technology space grows. The company has increasingly positioned its products as tools that can help users understand complicated subjects rather than simply locate webpages.

A quiz-based format can make revision less repetitive. Students can work through questions, check their responses, and return to topics where they need additional practice.

A Shift from Search to Learning

The development reflects a broader change in how people use search engines. Instead of simply providing a list of links, Google is increasingly building tools that help users complete tasks directly. For students, that could mean spending less time searching for individual practice questions and more time actually testing their knowledge.

“Eligible college students in the US can get one year free of Google AI Pro, providing access to Gemini Spark, increased usage limits, and 5 TB of storage. Eligible college students outside the US can access Google AI Plus, free of charge, featuring increased usage limits, 400GB of storage, alongside bundled discounts on Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium,” Google said in a statement.

Such tools are best used alongside textbooks, teachers, and established study material. Students still need to verify information and understand concepts rather than relying solely on automatically generated questions and answers.

For students preparing for upcoming tests, the feature could offer a convenient way to turn a routine Google Search session into a quick revision exercise. And with Pichai himself putting the spotlight on the quiz, Google is clearly hoping the new approach will attract attention from learners looking for faster and more engaging ways to prepare.
