Users of ChatGPT are pleased by a little festive treat from Sam Altman, who has shared some exciting news about a ‘Christmas Easter egg’ hidden in ChatGPT. It enables a user to create a personalized video message featuring Santa Claus using a simple selfie.

ChatGPT’s Hidden Santa Selfie Video Surprise

Altman’s minimalistic post hinting at a seasonal secret, encouraged the community to use a certain emoji in the ChatGPT mobile app. Early responders quickly discovered that sending a gift emoji in a chat triggers the holiday feature, prompting the chatbot to ask for a selfie.

Ultimately, the image would then be used with Sora, OpenAI’s video generation model, by ChatGPT to create a personalized Christmas video message. The video usually features a Santa Claus lookalike wishing users words that depend on their selfie and setting, making it seem as though each video is customized just for them.

Reliable early indications suggest this video will feature a range of moods, from a merry Christmas wish to childlike remarks associated with the Holiday.

Is ChatGPT’s Santa Feature Just Seasonal?

Industry watchers have noticed that the Easter egg appears to leverage ChatGPT's capabilities in the domain of multimodal AI. It integrates the understanding of natural language with the processing of images and the synthesis of video. It begins with the user's input requirement to click the selfie, which then transmits the visual input to the Sora platform.

It is a rollout without much fanfare and is not currently fully documented on any official guides or support sites, but has reportedly worked on both Android and iOS versions of the ChatGPT app.

Although there has been no comment from OpenAI about whether this feature is going to be continued, this holiday feature is reflective of the trends in the AI industry to try new experiences, especially ones that are shareable on occasions such as festivals and celebrations. With Christmas around the corner, this hidden Santa video-making feature on the internet is creating quite a buzz.
