OpenAI has started hiring for its newly announced office in New Delhi. The company has released its first set of job postings in India, according to Times of India (TOI). The ChatGPT maker confirmed its plans to expand into the country last week. CEO Sam Altman is expected to visit next month, marking his second trip to India in less than a year.
According to the OpenAI jobs page, it is currently recruiting for three senior roles in its sales team. All three positions are at the Account Director level and cover different client segments:
Account Director, Digital Natives
Account Director, Strategics
Account Director, Large Enterprise
The listing for the Large Enterprise role highlights that the sales team’s mission is to help businesses ‘understand the deep impact that highly capable AI models can bring’. The role combines technical expertise, strategy, and customer engagement, with responsibilities spanning the full sales cycle, from pipeline generation to deal closure.
Applicants can head to the careers section on the OpenAI website and filter by country to find the India-specific vacancies. After selecting a role, candidates can click on ‘Apply Now’ and provide their personal details, location, and resume for consideration.
OpenAI’s average salary in India is estimated at around Rs. 39.5 lakh annually. While the current roles are senior-level, OpenAI also hires fresh graduates, particularly for entry-level positions in engineering and research, though competition is intense.
Interview processes for technical and managerial roles may include system design questions. There may be behavioral as well as leadership-focused assessments to gauge problem-solving skills and management style. Preparing for common questions repeatedly asked in OpenAI interviews may also help.
India has rapidly become one of the most important markets for OpenAI. The country ranks second worldwide for ChatGPT usage after the United States. Recently, the company also introduced ChatGPT Go, a Rs. 399 India-only subscription that offers access to GPT-5 with higher usage limits.
