Rockstar Games is reportedly preparing for its next game after the GTA 6 launch, but that’s not Red Dead Redemption. As the release date of GTA 6 approaches, another rumor surfaced. A latest leak claimed that L.A.Noir 2 is going to be the studio’s next big game. The story would reportedly move from Los Angeles to San Francisco and focus on the search for the Zodiac Killer. The leak first appeared in December 2023, so plans may have changed since then. However, Rockstar did not confirm the project yet.
The GTA 6 forums are now flooded with the leak, and it further claimed that the game will come sometime near 2030. Additionally, it added, “The higher-ups are talking about doing the face scanning stuff again, but making it insane. They want it to be the best-looking game ever made.”
This pointed to the return of the facial capture system that made the first L.A. Noire stand out. The feature in the original game was far ahead of the time when the title was released. The technology could reportedly get a major upgrade for a sequel.
What makes these leaks trustworthy is the details that this leaker shared about GTA 6 before Rockstar’s official confirmation. He mentioned Jason and Lucia, the Criminal Profile system, and an earlier plan involving four playable characters, although none of this confirms that L.A. Noire 2 is in development.
L.A. Noire was released in 2011 and gave Rockstar a different type of crime game. Players spent much of their time solving cases, questioning suspects, and looking for clues. A sequel could also fit into Rockstar’s long release cycle. GTA games take years to make and cost a lot to develop. A revived L.A. Noire could give the company another major franchise between GTA releases.

The original L.A. Noire became known for its detailed facial capture. Faces mattered during interviews because players had to watch suspects closely.
Technology moved forward since 2011. A new game could make faces, voices and small reactions much more detailed. For Rockstar, this could help make L.A. Noire feel fresh without losing what made the first game different.
L.A. Noire 2 is still only a rumor. Rockstar did not announce the game, its setting, or a release date. If the project is real, it could become an important release for Rockstar after GTA 6.
