PS5 has been around for more than five years, and it is still one of the most well-liked systems in India. And as we are barely two days away from 2026, all eyes are on the PS6.
We have a decent idea of what to expect from the next-generation console thanks to leaks, analyst conversations, and rumors. But before we can truly enjoy it, we might have to wait a little longer than anticipated.
Until recently, most reports suggested a launch window in late 2027 or early 2028. But according to recent sources, the schedule might not be final.
One of the primary risks for next-generation gaming consoles is the extreme shortage of RAM, driven by the rapid expansion of AI technology. On top of that, if current trends continue, Sony, along with other industries, would not only have to revise the pricing of their products but also launch new devices.
The heavy use of RAM by AI businesses has therefore led to very high memory module prices, a concern for console makers. Micron's departure from the consumer market, predicted for 2026, could create a supply shortage, delaying the launch of new products by Sony and other console makers until 2027-2028.
Some experts are still doubtful about the final PS6 delay, since there might be an increase in the jitters of the industry trying to remember production; however, 2026 can still pose problems.

In India, the PS6 is projected to cost between Rs 75,000 and Rs. 80,000. These calculations are theoretical, but they highlight how rising component costs could change Sony's typical console pricing strategy. The PlayStation 6 chipset is said to be a joint venture between Sony and AMD, codenamed Project Amethyst.
The chipset is expected to support AMD's next-gen Zen 6 CPU architecture and RDNA 5 graphics, with neural processing unit (NPU) integration as well. The AI features could enable higher-quality upscaling, better lighting, and more efficient performance management, all without a notable increase in power use.
It has been reported previously that the main console would be equipped with approximately 30GB of unified memory, while a speculated handheld version would come with 24GB.
