

A man has been arrested for attacking Sam Altman’s home in San Francisco. The man reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a residence in the North Beach area. The device caused a small fire at the exterior gate before the suspect fled the scene. Authorities have not revealed the identity of the man yet.
They later connected the incident to Altman’s home, where he lives with his partner and child. According to the San Francisco Police Department, the incident occurred early morning on April 10th, around 4:12 am. The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of high-profile tech leaders.
About an hour after the attack, police received a call regarding a man making threats outside the headquarters of OpenAI on 3rd Street. Officers who arrived at the scene identified the suspect as the same individual linked to the previous incident. He was taken into custody shortly after.
Police have confirmed that there was enough evidence to arrest the suspect. Although specific details about the motive have not been made public. The investigation is still ongoing.
An OpenAI spokesperson said that no one was injured in the incident. The company also thanked local authorities for their quick response and said it is cooperating fully with the investigation.
Hours after the arrest, Altman shared his first public reaction. In a post on X, he uploaded a rare photo of his family and spoke about the incident. The OpenAI CEO said he usually keeps his personal life private. He decided to share the image in the hopes that it might prevent similar attacks in the future. Altman added that he loves his family deeply and wants to keep them safe.
The OpenAI CEO also added that the device thrown at his home did not cause harm. It bounced off without serious damage. Reflecting on the situation, he noted that public narratives and strong opinions about AI may have contributed to the tension. Altman admitted that he may have underestimated the power of words and public discussions.
