OnePlus has started the closed beta of ColorOS 17 for the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R in India, marking the first public step toward replacing OxygenOS.
The company opened applications on August 6 and 7 for Indian users, offering only 300 testing slots for each device. The beta aims to collect feedback before a wider rollout while helping OnePlus prepare its transition to Oppo's unified software platform.
The program is available only for Indian variants of the OnePlus 15 and 15R running supported firmware versions. Selected users must hold a OnePlus Community account, sign a confidentiality agreement, and join an official Telegram group for direct interaction with the software team.
OnePlus also warned that the beta may include crashes, app compatibility issues, and unexpected bugs, making regular data backups essential.
ColorOS 17 represents a major software change for the brand as OnePlus moves away from OxygenOS. The company previously said the transition would combine engineering resources with Oppo, helping deliver faster updates and a more consistent software experience across devices.
The latest beta also gives Indian users an early chance to experience the redesigned interface before the stable release. Reports suggest ColorOS 17 introduces refreshed visuals, stronger AI features, improved memory management, and better customization while keeping the shared software foundation that already powers recent OnePlus devices.
OnePlus has not announced the stable rollout timeline or confirmed how the migration will affect long term software policies. Testers can expect regular updates during the closed beta, while most users will likely wait for the stable release before making the switch.
OnePlus said the software will provide a "more stable, reliable, and future-ready software experience" as the company completes its transition to ColorOS.
