The Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons opened their NBA Conference semifinal campaigns with authority on Tuesday night, delivering composed performances to secure crucial Game 1 victories and early momentum in their respective series.

Thunder Finish Strong Against Lakers

The defending NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, defeated the Los Angeles Lakers by a score of 108-90 during their first playoff game of the Western Conference semifinal series. The Thunder remain undefeated in the playoffs and now stand as the most likely team to win the NBA championship.

With only one quarter left in the game, the score was still deadlocked since LeBron James from the Lakers racked up 27 points, whereas Luka Doncic from Oklahoma City had difficulty moving around due to the defense formed by his teammates. Oklahoma City triumphed in the last quarter by putting in more effort and capitalizing on opponents’ fatigue.

Chet Holmgren of Thaumaturge played a leading role for the Thunder, scoring 24 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and blocking 3 shots. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 18 points and controlled the game at crucial moments as the Lakers attempted to recover lost ground.

Depth once again came through for Oklahoma City. The Thunder had their substitutes outscore the Lakers’ second unit 34-15, with newly minted guard Jared McCain hitting back-to-back triples at the start of the fourth quarter to blow the game wide open.

Lakers struggled offensively due to constant pressure, tallying 17 turnovers and shooting poorly from long range. Austin Reaves had an incredibly difficult night, while Jarred Vanderbilt exited the game after breaking a finger in the second half.

Daigneault of the Thunder acknowledged that he is proud of his players’ discipline but stressed that they can continue improving ahead of Game 2.

Pistons Carry First-Round Momentum Forward

Pistons won against Cavaliers by the score 111-101 in an East Conference semi-finals match in a bid to keep up with their excellent start in the play-offs.

Cade Cunningham was in charge of his team yet again with an outstanding performance, contributing 23 points and seven assists in an intelligent, fast-paced game, many of them at the basket. In the frontcourt, Jalen Duren made sure he made a difference for his team by scoring 11 points and earning 12 rebounds.

Detroit came out all guns blazing, with an excellent pass rate and sturdy defense. However, Cleveland could not match Detroit’s offense. Detroit is now playing its second-round playoff games, having come back from being 3-1 down against Orlando in the first round.

Both series now move to Game 2 on Thursday, with the Thunder and Pistons aiming to strengthen their early advantage.
