A new detail about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 has caught gamers' attention. The update has nothing to do with graphics or performance, but it is regarding the design of the console. The official Nintendo website has announced that the company is about to launch a new version of Nintendo Switch 2 that will offer replaceable batteries.
Rumors about the new Nintendo Switch 2 consoles began in January, and the developer has finally confirmed their existence. As per the announcement, the new models will have a battery design that will be easier to remove and replace. The change appears to be linked to new rules introduced by the European Union, which wants electronics companies to make batteries more accessible and products easier to repair.
Nintendo recently published information explaining how it plans to comply with the new regulations. The blog stated, “Nintendo takes these matters fully on board in the design of its products and it cooperates with authorised regional institutions to facilitate the proper collection, recovery, recycling, and environmentally sound disposal of electrical and electronic equipment.”
For handheld gaming systems, battery health matters a lot. After years of use, batteries naturally lose capacity. Many players have faced the choice of paying for repairs or buying a new device altogether. An easier replacement process could make that decision much simpler.
The announcement has also drawn attention because it reflects a wider shift happening across the tech industry. Right-to-repair laws have already influenced smartphone makers, laptop manufacturers, and even farm equipment companies. Consumers are increasingly asking for products they can maintain without special tools or expensive service visits.
Gaming hardware has largely avoided that debate until now. If Nintendo follows through with a repair-friendly design, rivals may eventually face similar pressure. What looks like a small battery change today may end up becoming one of the most important long-term upgrades in the Switch 2.
