In the most recent Copilot update, Microsoft introduced ‘Vibe Working’, a new AI-powered experience supported by Agent Mode and Office Agent. These specialized tools are designed to adapt to the workflow, understanding users’ intent.
“Get started with a simple prompt and then work iteratively with Copilot, steering it as it orchestrates multi-step tasks to deliver high-quality Office documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. It’s the new pattern of work for human-agent collaboration,” stated a Microsoft blog post.
To make the interaction between human and machine more productive, Office Agent is designed to create Word and PowerPoint documents using simple and natural language prompts. “Agent Mode in Excel and Word delivers best-in-class, AI-generated spreadsheets and documents right in the apps millions of people rely on every day at work,” the blog post read.
Based on the prompt, Agent Mode decides which formulas to use or how to create data visualizations. Microsoft 365 Copilot will also share a full summary of insights gathered from prompts and subsequent validation steps taken to iterate the output.
“It’s not just simple assistive short answers, but board-ready presentations or documents. It’s work, quite frankly, that a first-year consultant would do, delivered in minutes,” explained Sumit Chauhan, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Office Product Group.
Now, writing in a Word document also becomes a smarter, conversational, and interactive experience. The Microsoft blog post described “You focus on intent; Microsoft 365 Copilot brings it to life with Word’s native styles and polished formatting.”
From drafting content to suggesting modifications, Copilot will help the writing process feel “more like a dialogue than a task”.
The same thing applies to MS PowerPoint, one of the most used tools for creating presentations. Powered by Anthropic models, Office Agent in Copilot will allow users to get a chat-first experience while creating presentations. “Office Agent creates tasteful, well-structured PowerPoint decks and well-researched Word documents,” revealed the blog post.
For desired outcomes, Microsoft Office Agent should be instructed about specific needs beforehand. This can be done through information such as file length, visual theme, and target audience in the prompt.
