Microsoft officially launched a new advanced artificial intelligence feature, CoPilot Mode, in the Edge browser on July 28, 2025. This feature is now directly integrated into users' daily browser experience, offering a progressive change to how people interact with the web.
"This is why today we're excited to launch CoPilot Mode, a new experimental mode in Microsoft Edge, and our next step towards building a more powerful way to pilot the web." Microsoft officially mentioned in an official blog post,
For a limited period of time, Copilot Mode is free. It is available for Windows and macOS, which support Copilot, and can be operated manually at aka.ms/copilot-mode.
Microsoft designed this feature to make online tasks more efficient. The AI can view all open tabs and offer suggestions based on the context, but only with authorized user permission.
While looking at different smartphones, users might think about the best camera and battery life under Rs. 20,000. The AI assistant quickly compares everything, saving time for the user and preventing endless flipping between tabs.
The tool also supports voice commands. CoPilot Mode lets users find text on a page, compare products, or translate content without typing or clicking. The AI shows up as a sidebar, so users won't lose their position on the main page when they ask for help.
Microsoft is working on other improvements for CoPilot Mode. Future updates will enable the AI to access your browsing history and saved logins and ultimately perform real-time actions like booking a ticket or looking up local weather. It will also recommend the best type of sunscreen for beach trips or tutorial videos for work-related research.
The tech giant said in its release, "As AI begins to reshape nearly every facet of digital life, we're witnessing a turning point in how we interact with the web."
With CoPilot Mode, Microsoft Edge becomes more than a browser. It becomes an intelligent AI assistant tailored to modern digital needs. While privacy issues remain prevalent, the user's manual activation provides full assurance and clear visual indicators on the page.
This update turns Edge into an active partner in browsing tasks compared to former versions, where it was a mostly passive browser. CoPilot-type tools aim to redefine productivity standards for personal browsing while mainstreaming AI-driven features.
