Meta, Google, and Qualcomm are pushing smart glasses into a new phase. On September 23, Meta’s advanced VR device arrived as a form of smart glasses. The same evening, Meta launched its latest VR glasses without a camera, and Google took Qualcomm’s help to announce the arrival of its first Gemini glasses at the Qualcomm event. This showcases a new trend that the wearable industry is moving toward smart glasses that listen, talk, and, if needed, provide a screen.
The focus is moving from basic audio features to AI, cameras, and displays. Meta’s Meta VR Glasses are priced at around 1.24 lakh in India and weigh around 100 grams. They use a separate pocket device for key hardware and are expected to arrive in spring 2027. Similarly, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 will be available around Rs. 44,300 in India and will feature a 12MP camera, longer battery life, and a new button for Meta AI.
Latest stats reveal that glasses are around 84.6% of the total XR device shipments in 2026, with headsets at 15.4%. The bigger change is not simply making VR hardware lighter. It is about giving people a new way to use AI without reaching for a phone.
Smart glasses can already handle calls, music, and voice questions. Newer models are expected to go further. Users could get directions, translate conversations, or ask questions about something they are looking at.

The idea is simple: instead of pulling out a phone, users could ask their glasses for help. This could make AI feel more natural during daily tasks. Meta, Google, and Qualcomm are building toward a future where glasses become a regular AI tool. Phones may still do the heavy work, but glasses could become the easier way to access it.
