Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas has issued a warning to iPhone users against downloading the fake Comet app available on the Apple App Store. He made it clear that the official iOS version of Comet has not yet been released and that users should wait for the real app from Perplexity.

Srinivas shared the warning on the social media platform, X, saying, “The Comet app currently on iOS App Store is fake and spam and not from Perplexity. You will hear from us when Comet iOS is ready for pre-registering and downloading.”

Comet Browser Gains Popularity

The warning comes at a time when Comet, Perplexity’s AI-powered browser, is gaining attention. Its Android version is already available and has received positive reviews. Many people see Comet as a new competitor to Safari on iPhones.

Perplexity recently announced that Comet is now free for all users. The browser works on the Chromium framework. It supports popular extensions and bookmarks. Comet can do more than just open websites. It can summarize content, automate simple tasks, manage workflows, and give personalized suggestions. This makes it useful for research, work, and learning.

Risks of Fake Apps

Srinivas has cautioned against the usage of fake apps, highlighting their potential danger. These applications, or rather, fake apps, can steal users' personal information, infect devices with malicious software, and create other security issues.

He then suggested that users stay off the App Store when it comes to the application “Comet” until Perplexity gives its seal of approval for the official launch. If someone has already downloaded the fake app, they should delete it immediately and watch their device for any strange behavior or unusual activity.

The incident highlights the fact that fraudulent apps frequently pop up as soon as a product gains traction. Additionally, it indicates how rapidly Perplexity’s Comet browser is growing. Users are urged to download apps only from official sources to stay safe and protect their privacy.
