Instagram’s new Instants feature is drawing criticism from users. Most of them stated that the update feels intrusive. Many users complained that Instants shared the first-clicked photo to the entire friend list without asking for consent or a preview.

Instagram is a platform where users carefully edit their images before sharing them publicly. Instants, on the other hand, is meant to increase real-time engagement on Instagram. However, many people feel it shares more information than they are comfortable with.

Some users said the feature appeared automatically after the latest update. Others claimed there was no clear warning about how it works. This quickly sparked privacy concerns online, with several users asking how to disable it.

People who want to disable Instants can do it through Instagram settings. Users need to open the app, go to Settings, then scroll down to Content Preferences. Once there, toggle on Hide Instants in Inbox to disable the feature until users turn it on.

Those who are looking for a temporary solution can unsend Instants. The moment a photo is shared with friends, an ‘Undo’ option will appear below the shutter button. Tapping it will instantly delete the snap from every inbox before recipients even open it.

Additionally, users can access their archive by selecting the four-box icon in the top-right corner of the camera. From there, they can delete an Instant, which will unsend it to anyone who has not yet opened it.

The issue has again raised questions about how social media companies design new features. Many platforms now focus heavily on keeping users active for longer periods. Critics believe this sometimes comes at the cost of user control and privacy.

As apps compete for more attention, users are becoming more careful about how much personal activity is shared automatically.
