Sony held its latest PlayStation State of Play on June 4, 2025, offering a glimpse at some of the major PS5 games, including Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, 007: First Light, and Silent Hill, to the delight of those seeking new content.
However, the event had an unexpected twist: frustrated GTA 6 fans resurrected the long-dead title "Agent," which had been first announced in 2009 and finally canceled in 2018. They claimed Rockstar had just discarded the game while promoting it during the State of Play hype.
The outcry has indeed epitomized fan impatience for GTA 6 delays as hopes for new updates from Rockstar mount. For now, "Agent" is in the deep freezer, while fans are pounding the doors of the studio for answers.
At this point, the entire gaming world is buzzing over the release of GTA 6. This title received a sudden postponement, which players probably relate to the abrupt cancellation of Agent. This game was initially announced in June 2009. It was planned to be a stealth action game for PlayStation 3.
Set during the time of the 1970s Cold War, this game was first teased in 2007 and then formally announced in 2009. This is again June, and this game was never released. Instead, it was cancelled in 2018. Initially, the trademark for the game's title was renewed in 2013 and 2017. However, on 19 November 2018, the United States Patent and Trademark Office declared the trademark for Agent had been abandoned.
Rockstar didn’t officially announce anything, but players noticed that clicking on the official website for Agent redirects to Rockstar Games's official website. The game has been removed from Rockstar’s game list as well.
The exact reason behind this cancellation hasn't ever been stated, but industry insiders suggest that internal challenges and shifting priorities within Rockstar may have contributed to the decision. However, the gaming community is still in the dark about this game and roasts Rockstar on that basis.

Agent was never released. No specific data of the game has ever been brought to light, including its storyline or gameplay. Even the reasons behind its abrupt abandonment are still a mystery. However, players and industry insiders believed that the team working on Agent was eventually shifted to GTA 5.
GTA games are always a priority for Rockstar, but fans are still curious whether these two games were of the same design. To date, players roast Rockstar because of this game. On social platforms, someone sarcastically mentioned, “It was never officially cancelled; it’s still coming, guys.” In support of his statement, another player remarked, “I wonder when it’s coming out. It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything.”
There’s no way Rockstar is going to revive this idea. Otherwise, they would have done it. But players roasting the developer after years for this game shows how excited they were, and also the postponement of GTA 6 created a level of frustration among them.
Rockstar’s decision to postpone GTA 6 has stirred the gaming community for sure. The latest PlayStation State of Play has showcased multiple first-party and third-party games that will come to PlayStation this year. Ghost of Yotei received an exciting update at this event, but still, Rockstar is receiving roasting from fans for the cancellation of a game years back in 2018. The primary reason behind it is most likely the silence of Rockstar regarding GTA 6 and its sudden delay.
