Google has rolled out a new Live Translate feature for Gemini 3.5. It can listen to a person speaking, translate the conversation, and talk back in another language within seconds. On June 9, the model was launched with support for more than 70 languages.
The live-translation feature is designed to make conversations easier between people who do not speak the same language. Instead of typing text into a translator, users can simply talk and hear the translated response. The update is one of Google's biggest steps yet in real-time language translation.
The new feature allows users to have live conversations across different languages. Gemini listens to what a person says and quickly delivers the translated version. For regular users, the feature will be available in the Google Translate app. One needs to open the app, tap on Live translation, pair the headphones, and start speaking. The Beta version is now rolling out for both Android and iOS.
Support for 70 languages makes the translation feature extremely useful for travel, work meetings, online chats, and everyday conversations. The best part is that the tool will translate live without any delay, like the previous models.
The tech giant has also improved Gemini's voice features to make interactions feel more natural. Users can speak normally without needing to stop and type messages. Google continues to add new tools to Gemini as competition in AI grows.

The arrival of real-time translation could worry some language professionals. For basic conversations, many people may choose a free AI tool instead of paying for translation services. Tourists, students, and small businesses may find instant translation more convenient.
Still, human interpreters have strengths that technology cannot easily copy. They understand tone, emotion, culture, and context in ways machines often miss. That’s why many experts believe AI will help translators rather than completely replace them. However, it seems that the technology will change how translation is done.
For decades, movies and TV shows have imagined devices that could instantly translate any language. This idea once felt far away. Today, tools like Gemini 3.5 are making it feel real.
The feature is not perfect. Mistakes can still happen, but the ability to speak with someone in another language and get an instant response would have sounded impossible a few years ago. With each update, AI is bringing that science-fiction dream a little closer to everyday life.
