Google has started rolling out Gemini Spark, a new feature that allows its Gemini assistant to carry out tasks across apps and websites on behalf of users. The feature is currently available to subscribers of the company's AI Ultra plan in the United States.

Announced at Google I/O 2026, Gemini Spark is part of Google's effort to move Gemini beyond a conversational assistant and turn it into a tool that can complete tasks with limited user input.

Designed to Work Across Google's Apps

Gemini Spark integrates with other Google applications like Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. The assistant helps users create tasks related to meeting scheduling, event invitations, organizing files, or preparing documents.

Users may also request the assistant's help for their email through task completion, drafting of replies, and summarizing emails. As per Google, Gemini Spark is a cloud-based assistant which means that it will keep working despite the closure of the application by the user.

Gemini Spark Can Browse and Complete Tasks

Among the new features in the application is its capability to browse websites via remote browsers. According to Google, Gemini Spark can gather information from websites, fill out forms, and perform repetitive web-based tasks. The application has been designed with this particular feature, aiming at saving time while performing repetitive tasks.

The users are accountable for confirming their sensitive actions, especially those that involve any financial transactions.

Part of a Broader Industry Trend

With this launch, tech companies are in a rush to develop AI agents that are able to carry out actual tasks. For instance, during the last year, technology giants like OpenAI, Microsoft and Anthropic released applications that were able to surf the web, do research and perform workflow automation.

With its new Spark application, Google aims to offer something comparable to Gemini. The industry has become more focused on creating action-capable systems rather than just generating content.

Available Only to AI Ultra Users

Gemini Spark is currently only available for US subscribers under the AI Ultra package. There is no information on when and how the service is going to be made available for other plans or locations.

This deployment can be seen as a first step towards gauging how the users feel about assistants capable of performing tasks beyond answering queries – those requiring multiple app and website switches.
