Google is launching its long-awaited AI health coach for select Fitbit Premium users in the United States. This indicates a major step in the company’s push toward AI-driven health and fitness tools. The Public Preview begins tomorrow for Android devices, with an iOS rollout planned for a later date.
According to Google, this preview version will evolve with user feedback to “add, change, or improve features and capabilities.” The company describes the launch as an early access phase, noting that “there will be some gaps” as it fine-tunes the experience.
The new Google AI health coach functions as an interactive chatbot designed to help users set and achieve personalized health, fitness, and sleep goals. Each user begins with a five- to ten-minute conversation to assess their lifestyle, preferences, and objectives. Then, the coach generates tailored advice, workout recommendations, and wellness insights rooted in science-backed data.
Google informs that the AI coach will help users monitor their fitness level and adjust the plan according to their needs, and even devise exercises tailored to specific conditions. It also helps users to prepare questions to ask health professionals.
Beyond fitness, the AI coach integrates with Fitbit’s sleep tracking ecosystem to provide detailed sleep analyses. Powered by Google AI Health algorithms, it can recognize sleeping patterns, identify factors that are affecting rest quality, and propose practical steps to enhance recovery. All data, including trends and recommendations, is accessible directly within the redesigned Fitbit app.
This launch represents a significant update to the Fitbit app, which is being reimagined to highlight AI as a central component of the user experience. Google says the health coach will integrate across the broader Fitbit ecosystem, including compatibility with Pixel Watch and all Fitbit devices.
The rollout of the AI-driven health assistant feature will occur gradually, with eligible Fitbit Premium members receiving in-app notifications informing them of its availability once access is granted.
Google is continuously refining its AI-driven health assistant with features that signal the company’s broader vision. The tech giant is expected to merge artificial intelligence with daily wellness tracking to provide more efficient and effective personalized, data-informed fitness experiences.
