Sam Altman, the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, will join Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42, for a headline conversation at GITEX GLOBAL 2025 in Dubai. The session, titled ‘From Early Adoption to AI-Native Nations: Shaping the Next Era of Intelligence,’ will take place on Tuesday, October 14, at 9 AM on the Main Stage in Hall 25 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Seats are limited, according to a post by G42’s X account.

Why is This Talk Important?

Altman and Xiao bring together two powerful ends of the global AI infrastructure, Silicon Valley’s cutting-edge research and the Gulf’s fast-rising national AI ambitions.

Altman heads OpenAI, the lab that triggered the current AI boom and continues to set the pace for the industry. On the other hand, Xiao leads G42, a UAE-based technology group driving the region’s big push into AI infrastructure and data-driven governance.

Their session comes at a time when countries are moving beyond corporate adoption to build AI-native national strategies. The focus has shifted from companies using AI tools to governments redesigning systems around them.

What Does This Mean for the Gulf and Beyond?

The UAE has made no secret of its goal to become an AI powerhouse. G42 sits at the heart of that plan, investing in large-scale computing, healthcare analytics, and digital platforms meant to serve both national and regional goals.

Peng Xiao often describes G42’s approach as ‘inquisitive by nature’ but ‘purposeful in focus’, a mix of curiosity and ambition aimed at solving real-world problems.

For the Gulf, the conversation with Altman is more than symbolic. It highlights a growing belief that intelligence, not just energy or data, could become the next key national resource.

What Might Altman Bring to the Table?

Altman’s presence combines credibility with an air of curiosity. As the face of OpenAI, he has steered global dialogues on factors relating to AI safety, creation, and economic impact.

His firm's significant strides in large language modeling and generative AI have been redefining the way we work, learn, communicate, and more.

At GITEX, Altman and Xiao are expected to explore how nations can design for intelligence, treating AI as a core part of infrastructure rather than an add-on technology.

What’s Next?

While considering governance and regulation, this discussion could establish the blueprint for the AI age: digital sovereignty and intelligent systems might just become the core of national identity.

As GITEX 2025 opens with this high-profile session, it will be interesting to see if the global tech leadership can lay out the true incarnation of an AI-native nation.
