Fortnite is finally returning to iPhone and iPad. After years of being away from Apple devices, Epic Games has now confirmed that the game will soon be available again to Apple users.
The game disappeared from the App Store back in 2020. At that time, Epic Games added its own payment system inside Fortnite. Apple did not allow that since the company wanted all app payments to go through its own system. Soon after, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store, and the fight between the two companies quickly turned into a major legal battle.
For years, iPhone and iPad users could not download Fortnite directly from Apple’s App Store. Many players moved to consoles, PCs, or cloud gaming services instead. Now, after a prolonged legal fight, it seems things are changing between the two sides.
The legal battle that started in 2020 continued for five years. At a time when players almost admitted the game would never return to iOS, a sudden X post from the official Fortnite account shocked them. It read, “Fortnite is back on the App Store around the world for iPhones and iPads!”
This is good news for players from most regions, but those in Australia will still have to wait a bit longer. The game is still unavailable there on iOS devices. Apple often pushes its unlawful content, which is why, until Australian courts review it, Fortnite won’t be back on the App Store there.
Although the battle royale is making a return to iPhones and iPads, on its official blog, Epic Games has stated how it will “continue to challenge Apple’s anticompetitive App Store practices of banning alternative app stores and competition in payments.” This indicates that the problem hasn’t completely dissolved.
Fortnite is still one of the world’s biggest online games. Its return may help Apple bring back many younger users who stopped gaming on iPhones after the ban. The comeback is also important for the larger app business. Many companies have been asking for better payment freedom and fewer restrictions on mobile platforms.
Some industry experts believe Fortnite’s return could encourage more developers to challenge old app store policies in the future. Apple may also face more pressure to allow flexible payment systems.

This decision is no longer only about one game. The fight between Epic Games and Apple sparked a broader discussion about digital stores, app payments, and platform control.
Governments in several countries are now closely monitoring large tech companies. Many regulators want fairer systems for developers and users. However, Fortnite returning to iPhones shows that pressure from courts and developers is slowly changing the mobile app industry.
