Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen players now have a new reason to complete their Pokédex. The game came out as Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 ports on Pokémon Day 2026 and, surprisingly, it became one of the highest-selling titles on the official Nintendo Store.
However, since the game was launched, players have been demanding Pokémon HOME support, as the Pokédex can’t be completed without it. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen would actually need Gen 3 games to complete the National Pokédex via trading, and some of the Pokémon can’t be found in either game, despite exclusivity.
However, the developer seems to have responded to player demands, and the recent announcement mentioned that Home Compatibility will be introduced this October. Once it’s introduced, players will be able to complete their Home Pokedex and, most importantly, they might get Celebi for free.
Notably, Celebi can’t be acquired natively in the game. So, that’s the only way to get the Pokémon. The process gives older Pokémon collections a new use and may encourage fans to return to their old saves.
The timing of the reward is important. Pokémon Bank is set to shut down in February 2027. Players with Pokémon stored in older games will therefore need to move their collections before the service closes.
This could be especially useful for fans who have spent years building Pokémon collections. FireRed and LeafGreen include Pokémon from the first three generations, making them an important part of many older collections.
The Celebi reward adds another reason to finish the Pokédex before moving everything. Players are not just transferring their old Pokémon. They also have a rare Pokémon waiting at the end of the process.
FireRed and LeafGreen remain fan favorites. The new Celebi reward gives players one more reason to pick them up again.
With the Pokémon Bank shutdown approaching, fans with older Pokémon collections may want to start planning their transfers. For FireRed and LeafGreen players, completing the Pokédex now comes with an extra reward.
