A US judge has ordered Elon Musk to produce emails and other communications from Tesla and SpaceX as part of a legal battle involving Apple and OpenAI.
The order is part of the discovery process, where courts require parties and third parties to provide documents that could be relevant to a case. Lawyers involved in the lawsuit argued that certain communications connected to Musk may help clarify issues under dispute.
Musk helped establish OpenAI in 2015 before eventually leaving the organization several years later. Elon Musk has repeatedly criticized the company since his departure and even established his own artificial intelligence company, xAI, in 2023.
According to the court filing, the requested documents may include any emails or correspondence related to AI development, business connections, and industry competition.

The judge's mandate does not accuse Musk, Tesla, or SpaceX of any misconduct. The company has only been asked to provide documents that could help resolve the issue.
The litigation arises amid increased competition among tech giants vying to outdo one another with AI products. The proceedings are still pending, and court hearings will follow in the coming months.
