Borderlands 4 is coming this September. After a six-year gap, 2K Games and Gearbox are ready with the next Borderlands installment, and the official pre-order process has also started. This assured the Vault Hunters about its September release. Like always, the game is coming with three different game editions.

After Mario Kart World set a price tag of US$80, players were anxious about whether the Gearbox game would also follow the same route. Fortunately, the Borderlands 4 developers set a much lower price tag for the Standard Edition that almost everyone can afford. The Standard Edition comes at US$70. Still, it has created debate in the community.

Borderlands 4 Standard vs. Premium: What Do You Get for US$70?

As the pre-orders of different Borderlands 4 editions are now live, prices of these editions are also officially revealed. The Standard Edition of the game is priced at US$69.99. Pre-ordering this edition will allow players to have the full base game and the Gilded Glory Pack. This bundle will have skins for Vault Hunters, weapons, and the ECHO-4 drone.

For those who love to get more bonus rewards, the Deluxe Edition presents the items from the Standard Edition along with the Firehawk’s Fury weapon skin and a Bounty Pack bundle. This bundle includes four new areas, Vault Cards, missions, gear, cosmetics, and vehicles. The Deluxe Edition is available at US$99.99

Finally, the Super Deluxe Edition is for the hardcore Borderlands fans. Available at US$129.99, this edition brings everything from the previous two editions, with an Ornate Order cosmetic pack and two Vault Hunter story packs.

Borderlands 4: Debate & Consumer Backlash

In recent times, the debate regarding game development cost and game price increase is a sensitive issue in the gaming community. While a group of players supports the increased prices of the games, stating that the development cost has increased; therefore, developers need to increase the game price to deliver the best experience.

However, another group of players fears that increasing game prices makes them unaffordable to many. This will eventually cause a downfall. Igniting this debate, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford once stated that real fans won’t hesitate to spend more for gamers. This brought severe criticism, which made him issue a formal apology.

Now, it’s not clear whether 2K was always interested in making Borderlands 4 a US$69.99 game or the Pitchford controversy made them take this decision. Whatever it is, players can now get Borderlands without spending a hefty amount.

Conclusion

The pre-order price of Borderlands 4 Standard Edition fits the current baseline of AAA games. The US$69.99 is justified for a full-length AAA sequel. Deluxe editions are expensive, but they offer added content. Anyway, those won’t attract casual gamers much. For new or casual players, the Standard edition is the best. It delivers the core gameplay experience. Those who look for additional missions and extended storylines may find the higher tiers better.
