Rockstar Games has given PlayStation another reason to celebrate. Ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6's launch on November 19, the company confirmed that the game ‘plays best on PS5.’ The statement comes as part of Rockstar's partnership with Sony, which is leading the marketing for the game.
GTA 6 will also launch on Xbox Series X and Series S. However, Sony is making the PlayStation version the main focus of its promotions. Since GTA 6 is expected to be one of the biggest game releases of this generation, the announcement is a big win for PlayStation.
GTA 6 pre-orders are breaking all the records, with nearly 50 million copies booked and estimated revenue of $4 billion since the pre-order went live. At this juncture, one blog statement by the GTA developer came to the surface, stating, “PS5 puts you in the center of the game world with the DualSense wireless controller reacting to your actions and bringing the sights, sounds, and sensations of Jason and Lucia’s story into the palm of your hands.”
Rockstar has mentioned that GTA 6 will make good use of the PS5's built-in features. Players will get to experience a whole new level of actions through the DualSense controller for its adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The game also supports 3D Audio, making the world sound more detailed. Fast loading is another advantage because of the PS5's SSD.
However, the announcement never mentioned that the PlayStation version of the game would have some extra content or different gameplay. In fact, both the PS5 and Xbox versions are expected to offer a very similar experience. The main difference is how Sony is presenting the game through its marketing partnership with Rockstar.
Sony's deal with Rockstar gives PlayStation a strong advantage before GTA 6 arrives. Even though the game is not exclusive, many players will connect GTA 6 with PS5 because that is the version they keep seeing in advertisements.
The announcement also puts Microsoft in an interesting position. Xbox owns Activision Blizzard and some of gaming's biggest franchises. Still, it could not secure the main marketing rights for GTA 6. This shows that buying game studios does not always guarantee the biggest partnerships. Sony's long relationship with Rockstar continues to work in its favor.

Sony is not only promoting GTA 6. It is also giving players another reason to look at the PS5 Pro. Many fans planning to buy the game may decide this is the right time to upgrade their console.
The standard PS5 will still offer the full GTA 6 experience. However, Sony's marketing campaign is likely to push the PS5 Pro as the best platform to play. If this message connects with buyers, GTA 6 could become one of the biggest reasons for people to move to Sony's latest console.
